Michael Kick joined the Buffalo Fire Department after graduating in recruit class 02-01. He would serve as a firefighter on the department until his premotion to Lieutenant in July of 2015. On October 30th 2024, Michael would be promoted again becoming Marine Captain of the Edward M. Cotter (Engine 20). where he is stationed to this day.

Captain Kick is also a member of WNY's Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes and Drums band.
